Last week a few of us rallied and decided that a shuttle day was in order before the long weekend With only a few options available to us at this time we figured that we were due for a good ‘ol Mt 7 session.
We loaded up the truck with a pile of fun on 2 wheels and headed off. Stoked with anticipation for the adrenaline we were on our way to experience.
Fork loads of fun!
With Golden being only an hour and a half away its a common place for us to head for day trips or weekends.
Mt 7 is one of the best places to ride in eastern BC. During regular season there are a range of trails that will put the best down hiller’s to the test. The style of trails here have every thing you could ask for, speed, steeps, berms, jumps and stunts. Mt 7 is best known for the Red Bull Race Psychosis, the most demented downhill race in the world. Though this race no longer exists it is still a mecca for riders to come.
Being early season, we are restricted to ridin from the 6.5 km marker on the shuttle road and lower.
6.5k is a fast steep flow section on the left side of the road and puts you out around the 4 k mark.
Corson showing us how its done.
From there you rip down and join up with the race course trail at the 3k mark. The 3k mark is also one of the few shuttle trails that are 4 wheel bike accessible. Just look for the Kohut sign at the trail head.
The 3k is wicked fun, coming in just below Donky drop and Wet Dreams(race course drop) and goes right into some serious flow and finishes with the epic snake run( a natural banked slalom).
Next run we dropped in at 5k.
With a short hike up to the trail intersection the boys pushed up.
5k is nice and fast with tons of natural features and a few man made ones as well.
Leif making use of the trails offerings.
A bunch of berms, some drops, jumps and guaranteed smiles.
After a few runs we started to feel drops…….Rain……
We didn’t let the rain ruin our day though, and kept on riding through the wet and had a blast. The mud made the roots greasy and the trail slick. Keep the tires rolling and the fingers off the brakes and keep the fun coming.
We left muddy to say the least.
After a day full of fun we left our trail donation to support the Golden Cycling Club and the maintenance of Mt 7. They do a great job keeping the trails in top shape and improving the fun for all of us. If you have an opportunity to support the trails that you ride by donating money or time, I urge you to do so the better our trails.
- More updates on Mt 7 will keep coming until the top is dry, can’t wait for dead dog!
