We made the journey out to Kamloops earlier this year go go see what the crew at SunPeaks resort have been up to.  Well the answer…..Lots. These guys have been making new trails, improving features and generally keeping the hill rad for all riders. An added bonus to the day was it was $2 lift ticket day.

Sun Peaks offers all varietys of riding, but the real highlights of the hill are the super high speed flow lines.  Myself(Paul Kerfoot) Mike Terrace and Nate Cowie took some shots of a couple of the trails to give you a taste of the fun.

The main trail we shot was their Main Jump trail called Steam Shovel. Steam shovel has a bunch of different features other then just yourstandard dirt jumps. It flows quite nicely if you’re not on the brakes and the tranny’s line up when you hit them with some speed.

All in all Steam Shovel and Sun Peaks will get your blood flowing and is definitely worth the trip to check out. My favorite run at Sun Peaks is Gummy bear (a super fast flowey fun single track) to Arm pump(Super fast flowey) to Home run(time to go even faster).

We were hoping to have been able to session their  Slope style park, which, in the past has had some super well shaped big booters. but unfortunately wasn’t open this past year. Maybe next year.

I recommend every one gets out to Sun Peaks to get their shred on.

We also came across a sweet new back road way to cut some time down on your trip if you are coming from the east. There is a turn off at Chase, BC, that will  cross the river onto kamloops-shuswap rd. follow this until you meet Mcgillvery Lake rd. this will give you some free camping options as well as cut your trip time down at least a half hour. you will enter into the village via the back way.

 

 

Though Canmore is far from a DH mecca, we are blessed with some wicked riding all around us. Within 2hrs driving we have  a good hand full of great shuttles and ski hills. Its not always west that we go to find great session spots. East of Canmore near the small town of Bragg Creek we have a Moose Mountain. Moose has been a ridng zone for quite some time now. But most recently in the last five years or so they formed the Moose Mountain Bike Trail Society(MMBTS). Since the creation of this society. the hill has never been so good. With regular trail maintenance and building days, the trails stay in  top shape and are constantly evolving.

We got to spend a bunch of days this summer there. here are some shots from a few different trails such as toothless.

Toothless is an old school flow style DH run. Tight trees, no pedaling required. and some steep turney fun.

No man made trail features on Toothless so it makes for a sweet warm up run to get you in the flow of things. Though the two black options on this trail will get your blood flowing.

After a good Warmup session on Toothless we head to Race of Spades(ROS). Race of Spades is one of the most built up trail on the hill. it drops in opposite of most of the other DH trails on Moose.

ROS starts off with tight flow speed(wide bars caution) then starts into some progressive jumps.

After a few more features including table tops, gaps and skinny features you get blessed with a sweet hike a bike….DOAH!

But the hike a bike is all worth it…….

Dave Fafard sending PAPA BEAR, a sweet 25-30ft gapper that is built to send at trail speed(as long as that speed is fast) and has a nice long run out to finish the trail off.With the fun being over its time for a work out. a 2-3km pedal out of the woods, gotta pay to play.

Need less to say, these are some fun well maintained trails and are worthy of a trip to session for any one in the area.

Well….. the time has come, to prepare ourselves for the snow  to come. The seasons change, and with it comes one of the best times of year to go ride, Fall.  The fall offers us a short window to rip the leaf covered trails full of wicked color.

The ground is tacky, and and worked in after a summer of fun. its never too hot and not too cold. Perfect riding conditions.

I had a chance to take some shots on 3 different fall rides. we sessioned moose mtn, The Razors Edge and a G8 loop all at a time when the colors were  phenominal. check out the shots from the fall sessions.

RAD BIKE EXTEME……OOOHHHH  YYYEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!

 

The next ride that we went out and did was the razors edge. You might recognize this ride from a post earlier this year. this was my first experience on it, and, what an experience it was. the colors were out the sky was clear and tons of fun was had. The Razors Edge has definitely made it into my books as one of the best rides the bow valley has to offer, with steep tech climbs and steep , flowey tech descents. a ride i would recommend to all intermediate to advanced riders.

There was always plenty of different lines to choose from. This is a nice side slab to drop to sharp loose right corner.

Epic long slabs were the highlight of this ride.

 

The trail is not completely rock, with some amazing color to ride through.

Go out and check this trail out before there is too much snow.

Josh is a 11 year old ripper from Canmore, he is on a bike as much as he can, hitching a ride up to reclaimer or riders whenever he can. If he’s not hitching its because hes already got some one rad to give him a ride already. He had a chance to get out to  Camp of Champions this year and did some major sessioning of Whistler.
