Intense’s answer to the demand for a lively race bred down hill bike. Brought in to the line up in late 2009 this bike replaced the longer travel m6 and the shorter FRO (For Race Only) Socom. Adjustable 8/8.5″ of travel and three different head angles, wheelbase lengths and bottom bracket heights make this bike super versatile. Both Paul and I had a great time riding the 951 for the 2010 season on a lot of different terrain, from high speed Mount 7 in Golden to steep technical wet North Shore trails. We both had slightly different builds but overall the bikes felt very similar and performed well over the course of the summer.
PROS
- Super fast in a straight line and super plush in corners (thanks to the VPP suspension)
- Fun and lively on jump trails
- Very little or no brake jack when compared to some other frame designs
CONS
- Low Bottom Bracket clearance and long wheel base can cause some issues on slower speed steeper trails (or just the North Shore)!
- Annoying derailleur cable routing (can get easily damaged in transit)
- Slight issues with certain Chainguides (frame has minimal clearance)
